Captain Dapo Olumide is a prominent Nigerian aviator who has made significant contributions to the aviation industry in Nigeria. He was born in Lagos State, Nigeria, on the 10th of August, 1959. He had his early education at St. Paul’s Primary School, Ebute Metta, Lagos, before proceeding to St. Gregory’s College, Obalende, where he obtained his secondary education certificate.

Captain Dapo Olumide had always been fascinated by airplanes and flying, but he didn’t get the opportunity to pursue his dreams until he was in his early twenties. He trained as a pilot at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, where he obtained a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Private Pilot License (PPL) in 1984. He went on to further his studies at the Top Aviation College in Arizona, USA, where he obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Management and Aviation.
Upon his return to Nigeria, Captain Olumide began his career as a commercial pilot with the Nigerian national carrier, Nigeria Airways. He quickly rose through the ranks and became one of the airline’s most valued pilots. He mentored many young pilots and trained them on modern flying techniques.
In the early 1990s, Captain Dapo Olumide left Nigeria Airways and founded his aviation company, DAS Air Cargo, a pioneering cargo airline in Nigeria. He successfully ran the airline for over two decades, establishing a name for himself as a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist. 
In recognition of his immense contributions to the aviation industry in Nigeria, Captain Dapo Olumide was awarded several prestigious awards and recognitions. He was inducted into the Nigerian Aviation Hall of Fame in 2009 and received the National Productivity Order of Merit Award in 2015.

Captain Dapo Olumide was tragically killed in a plane crash on the 14th of June 2021 along with four crew members and two passengers. His death is a great loss to the aviation industry and Nigeria, and he will be sorely missed by many. Nonetheless, his contributions to the aviation industry will inspire generations to come.
