Gufi Paintal (4 October 1944 – 5 June 2023) was a highly acclaimed Indian actor and casting director. One of his most iconic roles was that of Shakuni in the epic Mahabharata, where he portrayed the character with great finesse and became synonymous with the role.

Born in Tarn Taran, Punjab, India, Gufi Paintal initially pursued engineering at the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani. However, driven by his passion for acting, he decided to drop out and venture into the world of entertainment. In 1969, he made the pivotal move to Mumbai and began his journey as an assistant director. It was in 1978 when he marked his acting debut in the film Dillagi.
