Rujira Narula Banerjee, born in Kolkata, India in 1988, is known as the wife of Abhishek Banerjee, the National General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and a Member of Parliament for Diamond Harbour. Despite being a private person, Rujira has found herself in the public eye due to a few controversies surrounding her.
Rujira completed her schooling in private schools in Kolkata and later earned her degree from Jadavpur University. On February 24, 2014, she married Abhishek Banerjee in a ceremony that followed traditional Bengali customs. The couple has been blessed with two children, a son named Ayan and a daughter named Azania.
While Rujira generally keeps a low profile, she has faced some controversies. In March 2019, she was accused of obstructing a Customs officer at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The incident allegedly occurred after she was detained for carrying gold in her check-in baggage. Rujira was released on bail following the incident.
In February 2021, Rujira was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a coal smuggling case. The CBI claimed that Rujira and her husband were involved in an illegal coal mining and trading scam. Rujira strongly denied the allegations and stated that she was being targeted for political reasons.
While primarily fulfilling the role of a homemaker and caring for her children, Rujira is also engaged in social work. She has actively participated in campaigns advocating for women’s empowerment and education. Her involvement in these initiatives has garnered support and admiration from the TMC’s followers.
Rujira is regarded as a popular figure among the supporters of the TMC and is seen by some as a potential future leader of the party. Despite the controversies surrounding her, she continues to maintain her focus on her family, social causes, and supporting her husband’s political endeavors.
